my photo gallery consists of a carefully curated collection of photos which have come to represent my artistic intention and style. through my work, I aim to capture moments in my everyday life which demonstrate transient moments of bliss. these moments are raw and imperfect - sometimes violent - but are always witnessed through the rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia. that being said, I am not an expert photographer, this isn't my livelihood, and I don't claim to know exactly what I'm doing. I have inspiration, which mostly derives from an intense emotion or memory and I run with it.
in artist's works, what motivates me is the ability to bring to light specific emotions which are otherwise mysterious and inexplicable through language. "what you see is what you get," Daido Moriyama is a perfect example. works like his are especially important today as technological advancement has led us down a narrow path into minimalism in search of a standardized definition of perfection. a theme I lean towards, although that isn't present in every photo, is imbalance. I enjoy photographing groups of objects or scenarios in a space where they embrace one another's polarity, inspiring the debate between subjectivity versus objectivity.
as previously stated, nostalgia is a key component in portraying the emotions that I aim to immortalise. I take into account how the objects in frame are intrinsically linked together, stuck in a web of memories. nostalgia, or "ecstasy, and behind ecstasy is something else, which is hard to define, and is, indeed a sense of dreamlike connection between our existence and the world beyond" as Nabokov describes, is exempt from the constricts of time, as is photography. I believe there is a powerful connection between the photographic sphere and the longing to return home. in order to preserve this, I embrace the imperfections of my methods. this means that I look to enhance the appearance of signs which point to an interrupted or disturbed image - blur, noise, lens flare/bleeding light, dust, etc.
